Rare and selected Glenfarclas Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
The Glenfarclas distillery (Gaelic: valley of green grass) is located about 12 km west of Dufftown in Ballindoch below the slopes of the 840-metre-high Ben Rinnes in the north-east of Speyside in the middle of an agricultural area. It was founded in 1836 by Robert Hay and received a licence to produce whisky in 1844. In 1865, the distillery was sold to John Grant, whose descendants renovated the distillery in 1896 and still own it today. In 1960 and 1976, the distillery was extended by two stills, bringing the total to six, the largest in Speyside. The distillery Glenfarclas is very successful and still owned by the Grant family, there are only relatively few unofficial bottlings or expressions from independent bottlers. Glenfarclas whiskies are matured in the traditional Dunnage warehouses of thick stone walls and tamped earth almost exclusively in selected Spanish (Oloroso) sherry casks and the complex, spicy and fruity sherry notes with aromatic malt and honey tones skilfully dominate the exceptional style of Glenfarclas single malts. Glenfarclas skilfully and wonderfully demonstrates the combination and character of the Highlands and Speyside. The distillery relies on its long-standing and successful partnership with the Bodega José y Miguel Martin. Although sherry butts with a capacity of 500 litres and 250 litre sherry hogsheads are used, a small number of single malts matured in exquisite bourbon hogsheads have also been bottled, which stand out due to their exceptional character and outstanding quality. There is a very wide range of different bottlings and exquisite single cask whiskies from the distillery itself. Glenfarclas has a well-maintained stock of particularly old and absolutely outstanding whiskies and since 2006, exceptional and great single cask whiskies have been presented in iconic the Family Casks series, which regularly receive awards and many of the bottlings are among the best whiskies in the world, are well known among connoisseurs, whisky collectors and enthusiasts and are mentioned in the same breath for example as Ardbeg, Macallan, Bowmore or Lagavulin.
