A rare vintage 1978 28 years-old Port Ellen Islay Single Malt Scotch Whiskay at natural cask strength 60.9% vol. from the famous Diaege Rare Malts Selection limited edition, which was bottled in October 1998 in individually numbered bottles.
The Rare Malt Selection is a historic selection of single malt whiskies from operational and lost distilleries that were released by Diageo between 1995 and 2005 to showcase some of the hidden treasures in their portfolio. The second sensational old bottling Port Ellen 1978, bottled around the turn of the millennium as part of the Rare Malts series. This phenomenal dram was rated at 93 points by Serge Valentin of Whiskyfun, and its popularity and acclaim led to the revivial of interest in this classic closed distillery and thus to the birth of the annual Special Releases series. This pale gold 20 years old starts with arousing, salty aromas and som seaweed on the nos. The smooth bodied style, sweetly flowery flavours and very peppery, salt-smoked long finish make it a warming after dinner companion.
