This unique bottling of the vintage 1981 Glenesk Highland Single Malt from the year 2007 has almost completely disappeared from the market. A very special dram and excellent Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the closed distillery Glenesek.
Glenesk, formerly also Highland Esk Distillery and North Esk Distillery, was a whisky distillery near the town of Hillside, Angus, Scotland. The distillery was founded in 1897 by Dundee wine merchant James Isle as the Highland Esk Distillery from a flax mill and, like so many other distilleries, has not only seen a number of changes of ownership, it is also likely to have been the distillery with the most name changes in its history. The distillery, which closed in 1985, was known for its unusually large stills, and the production was at times used for blends, such as being a significant part of the William Sanderson VAT 69. Glenesk single malt bottlings are rarely found today, essentially the whiskies are still available under the name Hillside and the Rare Malt Series.
The whiskies offered between 2002 and 2011 by Duncan Taylor in the Cask Strength Rare Auld Edition acquired by Abe Rosenberg since the early 1960s come from the more than 4000 casks of selected premium distilleries, such as Aberlour, Ben Riach, Bowmore, Brora, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain, Caperdonich, Clynelish, Dallas Dhu, Dalmore, Glen Grant, Glen Moray, Glenburgie, Glenesk, Glenlivet, Glenlossie, Glenrothes, Inchgower, Knockando, Linlithgow, Laphroaig, Longmorn, Macallan, Macduff, Miltonduff, Old Pulteney, Springbank, Strathisla, Strathmill, Tamdhu and Tomatin and are all bottled as single cask whiskies in limited editions. All single cask whiskies from the legendary Peerless Cask Strength Rare Auld Edition are of exceptional quality, have won several awards and especially the old bottlings from the 1960s of Macallan, Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain and Highland Park are rare today and achieve considerable prices in the special auctions from Krüger, Bonhams and Christies.
A special piece of whisky history from the closed Highland distillery Glenesk for connoisseurs, the discerning whisky collector and lover of fine old Scotch whiskies, which is very hard to find today.
