A rare 1.0 litre bottling of the vintage 1989 16 year old Lagavulin Double Matured Special Release Distillers Edition lgv.4/493 Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky from the year 2005. This 16 year old Lagavulin Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky from the Classic Malts Selection of the Islay legend Lagavulin was distilled in 1989, matured for up to 6 months in European Pedro Ximenez sherry oak casks - these give the whisky more fruit such as sultanas and dried fruit and a syrupy character. It was bottled in 2005 at 43.0% vol. and batch number lgv.04/493 under the direction of Distiller Manager Donald Renwick. Ingenious and complex, this mature malt delivers the expected Lagavulin intensity with elegance and style. With its deep chestnut colour, this Islay shows its complexity and maturity, combined with a rich nose of bacon, seaweed, salt, old leather, honey and inviting smoke. Sweet, soft and dry with notes of smoke, pepper, peat, honey, vanilla, green apple and sherry. The finish is land and soft with lots of smoke.
