This special vintage 1989 16 years-old Bowmore Bourbon Cask Limited Edition Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made from of 134 carefully selected bourbon casks, bottled at natural cask strength 51.8% vol. in the year 2005 and the first of a series of four limited Bowmore vintage bottlings from 1989, 1990, 1991 and with different cask types.
Every part of this Bowmore scotch whisky was hand crafted and distilled back in 1989: the barley was malted, hand turned and tradionally peat kiln dried at the distillery. After distillation, the spirit spent 16 years slowly maturing in Bourbon oak casks before it was finally bottled.
This is a true expression of Bowmore in its natural form, from the barley, to the barrel, to the bottle. The result is a Bowmore light straw in colour, the aromas are complex - candied fruits, toffee and marzipan, bound together with the distinctive Bowmore smokiness. On the palate it is surprisingly delicate with hints of vanilla, soft fruit and light peat. The finish is light, elegant and smooth.
