This rare Vintage 1995 18 year old hand-filled limited edition Bowmore Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky was distilled on 13th July 1995 and after 18 years maturation in a 1st fill oloros sherry butt with cask no. 1572 from the Bowmore no.1 vaults was bottled on 26th May 2013 at natural cask strength 49.4% vol. in a limited edition on site at the distillery and was not officially available in stores.
Every part of the whisky was finished by hand and distilled in 1995: the barley was malted, hand turned and tradionally peat kiln dried at the distillery. After distillation, the spirit spent more than 18 years slowly maturing in a 1st Fill Oloroso Sherry Butt before finally for a small number of visitors to the Feis Ile 2014 could be filled by hand from the barrel. This is a Bowmore in its natural form, of the barley, and its maturation in the bottle. The result is a Bowmore with a dark mahogany to burnt umber in color, the aromas are complex - black sherries and Sevilla orange in dark chocolate cream with cocoa beans and sea-salt. On the palate it is surprisingly delicate with sultanas and spicy orange peel in combination with smoked almonds, chestnuts, oil and persistent peat. The finish is long with dark chocolate, cherries, plums, wood skins and sea salt. A Bowmore Islay whisky with great body that is reminiscent of old times and can compete with the legendary bottlings from the 1960s and 1970s or a Seadragon.
Due to the limited edition, this special Bowmore is rarely found and is one of the most sought-after bottlings among connoisseurs, discerning whisky collectors and lovers of fine old Scotch whiskies.
