This very rare vintage 1998 15-years-old Bowmore 5th hand-filled limited edition Islay single malt scotch whisky was bottled exclusively in June 2013 at cask strength 57.1% vol. from no.1 vaults cask 32162 in a small edition with only 260 bottles and was formally not otherwise available.
Every part of the great Bowmore scotch whisky was finished by hand and distilled in 1998: the barley was malted, hand turned and tradionally peat kiln dried at the distillery. After distillation, the spirit spent more than 15 years slowly maturing in a 1st Fill Barrique Bordeaux Wine cask before finally for a small number of visitors could be filled by hand from the barrel. This is a Bowmore in its natural form, of the barley, and its maturation in the bottle. The result is a Bowmore with a gold with a deep ruby blush in color, the aromas are complex - breathe in a late summer orchard of ripe stone with soft toasted mashmallows over a peat-smoke fire. On the palate it is surprisingly delicate - thick oiliness and supple fruitiness of kirsch and ripe plums combined with warm spiced oak and grapey tannins. The finish is long with sumtious winey sweetness and tobacco leaf coating the palate with resurgence of peat smoke. A very rare and special Bowmore Islay whisky with great body that is reminiscent of old times and can compete with the legendary bottlings from the 1960s and 1970s or a Seadragon. Due to its low circulation of this special and delicious Bowmore rarely found and is one of the sought-after bottlings among connoisseurs and whisky-collectors. Each bottle also comes with its own bag and certificate of authenticity.
