Bruichladdich 1984 18 Years Boubon Cask No. 14/15 Enlightenment Limited Edition Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Cask Strength 53.7% Vol. - one of 500 bottles of a stunning Isaly Single Malt!
The rare vintage 1984 18 year old Bruichladdich Enlightenment Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky comes from 2 selected bourbon casks with the cask no. 14 and 15 and is one of the first bottlings of Bruichladdich under the direction of Jim McEwan and Mark Reynier as a limited special bottling to honour the reprint of the book The Practical Distiller published in 1718, one of the first books ever to describe the distillation process.
The Bruichladdich Enlightenment Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky was presented in August 2002 in an edition of 500 individually hand-numbered bottles with a reprint of a book from 1718 - the practical distiller or a brief treatise of practical distillation, first published in 1718. A copy of the reprint is included in the elaborate and solid wooden box. The fine Bruichladdich Islay single malt Scotch whisky was bottled by hand in an edition of just 500 bottles and is a vatting of two bourbon casks, numbers 14 and 15, which have been matured in the Bruichladdich warehouse no. 12 since 1984. This means that this special Scotch whisky comes from the same year as Bruichladdich's famous Redder Still and Golder Still, which are almost no longer available.
The Practical Distiller is one of the first books on the distillation of alcohol and the period of enlightenment, also known as the enlightenment period, a time when the art of distillation was moving towards science. The enlightenment period was a movement in Western philosophy. It was the age of optimism with the realistic realisation that the human condition required radical reform. It is not known who or what prompted Bruichladdich to celebrate the reprinting of this book with this special whisky in this year. Malcolm Greenwood, the publisher of Greenwod Publishing Company and a whisky author himself, was involved in the creation of this limited edition, because together with Jim McEwan he selected the two casks in warehouse 12 on the morning of 12 July 2002, which were bottled four weeks later on 21th August 2002. Each bottle is hand-numbered and personally signed by Jim McEwan. Like almost all Bruichladdich bottlings, the vintage 1984 18 years Bruichladdich Enlightenment Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky was bottled without the addition of colouring agents and chill-filtration.
An exceptional piece of whisky history and exclusive expression from Bruichladdich of an exceptional Islay single malt Scotch whisky for connoisseurs, the discerning whisky collector and lovers of fine old Scotch whiskies, which is rarely found today.
