This rare vintage 1998 15 year old Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection Bourbon Whiskey was distilled on 28th January 2001, filled into 8 charred new white oak barrels and matured for 15 years and 7 months until its bottling without added colouring on 10th September 2013 at 45.0% vol / 90 proof. Stored in warehouse K on floor 6, this over 15-year-old Buffalo Trace Bourbon Whiskey is intended to show the influence of the barrels and their construction on the flavour of the Bourbon Whiskey. For this purpose, 2 different types of barrels were produced. The standard stave dry time oak barrels were made from oak staves that were air-dried for six months and the extended stave dry time oak barrels were made in staves that were air-dried for 13 months. Both barrels were produced from American white oak, charred for 55 seconds and filled with the same Buffalo Trace Rye Bourbon Mash Bill #1 and aged for 15 years. The Buffalo Trace Standard Stave Dry Time Bourbon resulted in a round and complex bourbon whiskey with flavours of caramel, vanilla and oak.
8 barrels of this special deep bronze-coloured bourbon whiskey were bottled as the 14th release in the Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection in the year 2014. This Buffalo Trace Bourbon Whiskey is now one of the rare rarities from the Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection and is almost hard to find.
For more than two decades, Buffalo Trace has been experimenting with recipes and different processes to explore the effects of whiskey maturation and taste. Currently, there are more than 4,000 experimental barrel whiskeys of different ages in the warehouses of Buffalo Trace. Each of the barrels has unique characteristics and experimental changes in the mash calculation, wood species, barrel toasts and more. The experimental whiskey is periodically bottled and is available in limited quantities as a small limited edition, and the label contains all the facts about this unique whiskey. Due to the small available quantity, they are filled in bottles with 375ML content. These special Bourbon whiskeys from Buffalo Trace of the Experimental Collection are only delivered to a few selected dealers in the USA, are almost unavailable in Europe and are one of the absolute rarities among bourbon lovers and connoisseurs even at the special auctions of Bonhams, Krüger or Christies.
