The tradition of independent bottling ranges in Murray McDavid 150 years back and was at that time the only way to enjoy the high-quality single malts of the smaller distilleries. Murray McDavid, the whisky bottlers with the specific claim, founded by Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin and Gordon Wright, whose ancestors had worked for generations in the whisky business and his family with Springbank and Cadenhead include two of the oldest and most prestigious names in the whisky world, they are supported by Andrew Gray and Jim McEwan, Masterdistiller of the Bruichladdich distillery. They offer whisky connoisseurs the opportunity exceptional rarities to taste. These range from the unknown to the famous distilleries of different ages and special Wood-finishings. Only the best barrels of the respective Distillery are selected and bottled without the addition of dyes and without the use of chill filtration. With its high standards and the self-imposed commitment to the highest possible quality and individuality of their whiskys represent the independent bottlers now an important element in the history of single malt whiskys and an enrichment of the market. The Scottish Whisky Company is one of the independent bottlers and entered 1997 the first series to the public. In December 2000, the founder of Murray bought then the disused distillery Bruichladdich and led it to its former glory. As Master Distiller Jim McEwan Whisky Legend could be won, a bottling plant was built and even set up a whisky Academy. Bruichladdich was under Murray McDavid now become a center of attraction for whisky-lovers from around the world and one of the most important employers on the Hebridean island of Islay. After 12 successful years, were sold at the Bruichladdich group Remy Cointreau and Murray McDavid itself was taken over in 2013 by the British company Aceo Limited. Especially old single cask bottlings of renowned distilleries in Cask Strength without dye and non chill-filtered from the Mission Gold series are only rarely found and are among the most sought-after whisky rarities on the market.
