Macallan-Glenvivet 1961 15 Years Sherry Wood Pure Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky 43.0% Vol. - absolutely rare old original bottling of a terrific old style Macallan for Gordon and MacPhail and Pinerolo in Torino!
An extremely rare and magnificent vintage 1961 15 years old Macallan-Glenlivet Sherry Wood Pure Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, bottled in the year 1976/1977 by the Macallan Distillery for Gordon and MacPhail and the renowned Italian importer Pinerolo in Torino at 75cl and today without question one of the particularly rare special original bottlings from Macallan-Glenlivet Ltd. from the early 1960s.
This special old style Macallan Pure Highland Single Malt from the early 1960s was bottled with the original Macallan screw cap without added colourants and chill filtration at 43.0% vol. for Gordon and MacPhail and is part of the series that helped Macallan to its almost legendary reputation: the pure sherry cask bottlings. At the beginning of the 1960s, Macallan concentrated on sherry cask-matured single malts and was able to gain great recognition among whisky connoisseurs worldwide in a short time with its unusual cask policy. At that time, they experimented with different sherry casks and then decided to use European oloroso casks, in which the world-famous Spanish liqueur wine had previously been matured.
Independent bottler Gordon and MacPhail helped Macallan survive from the 1930s to the 1960s by regularly buying stocks from the distillery, which in turn enabled them to bring many of these special Macallan bottlings to market. The special Macallan-Glenlivet labels were introduced in the 1950s and are now considered Macallan's first official label. Gordon and MacPhail started using them in the 1960s for the Italian market and the importer at the time, Donini in Milano.
Today, the old sherry-wood Macallan single malts are among the best-known and most sought-after Scotch whiskies, enjoy a legendary reputation because of their excellent quality and may well be called an icon among Scotch whiskies.
