ounded in 1952 by Masataka Taketsuru in Hokkaido, Nikka is now a subsidiary of Asahi Brewing and the second largest whisky producer in Japan. Taketsuru, whose family has run its own sake distillery in Japan since 1733, emigrated to Scotland in 1918 to study chemistry at the University of Glasgow. During his studies, he worked in a nearby whisky distillery. The art of distilling whisky fascinated the young student so much that he decided to export it to his native Japan to make his fortune, and he was successful. Taketsuru created his first own brand in 1940 and finally made his big breakthrough in the 1960s after winning several awards. The Nikka whisky is characterised by its fruity character and balanced taste with a long finish. For its production, the master distiller combined outstanding whiskies from the Nikka Group distilleries to create a creation with a stunningly complex flavour. The Nikka Taketsuru 21 Years Japan Pure Malt Whisky is one of the special whiskies named after Masaka Taketsuru and is a special treat. The 21-year-old Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt Whisky is named in honour of the company founder Masataka Taketsuru. It has a full, balanced body with plenty of elegance and has been aged in oak casks for no less than 21 years. The Nikka Taketsuru 21 Years Pure Malt 80th Anniversary Limited Edition is a blend of Yoichi and Miyagikyo single malts, is not chill-filtered, has a powerful amber colour and is characterised by its variety of flavours and excellent balance. The flavour is full of ripe fruit in beautiful harmony with fine aromas of oak wood. This gives the Taketsuru blended malt its depth and a wealth of flavours - an absolutely excellent, long-lasting and extraordinarily multi-faceted Japanese blended malt whisky that impressively demonstrates the great art of whisky composition from Nikka. A special whisky from Nikka for connoisseurs, collectors and aficionados, which has won several gold awards at the World Whiskies Awards in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2015 and has been named World's Best Blended Malt Whisky several times, making it the pinnacle of blended malt whiskies. This is one of the few examples still available from the limited edition celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Nikka distilleries, which was sold out within a very short time in an edition of just 3000 and is now one of the most sought-after whiskies from Japan.

- Palate: sweet, balanced, spicy (clove, nutmeg), growing in intensity. Praline and nuts (almond, cashew nut) calm the harsh flavours. This gives way to ripe fruit (pear, apple), vanilla and exotic fruit (pineapple, persimmon).
