Nikka Yoichi 20 Years Japanese Single Malt Whisky 52.0% Vol. - a legendary and outstanding Japanese single malt by Nikka from the Yoichi distillery!
The 20-year-old Nikka Yoichi Japan single malt whisky comes from the famous Yoichi distillery near Sapporo in Japan, a place made famous by winter sports. Masataka Taketsuru, founder of the Nikka distillery and forefather of Japanese whisky, was born in 1894 into a family that had been successful in the production of sake since 1733. His first employer sent him to Scotland in 1918 to learn working techniques, distillation processes and experience in whisky production. A few years later, he returned to Osaka and built Japan's first whisky distillery, thus becoming the pioneer of the now globally successful Japanese whisky industry. In 1934, he decided to go his own way and search for the ideal location for the perfect Japanese whisky. Nikka owns two distilleries: Miyagikyo on Honshu and Yoichi on Hokkaido, where Nikka's headquarters are also located. The single malt whisky is produced using copper stills and the traditional Scottish method of coal-fired production. A production method that is currently an exception even in Scotland. After the elaborate production process, the Nikka Yoichi single malt whisky is matured for 20 years in selected bourbon, new oak and sherry casks. The long maturation in oak casks gives the whisky harmony, but also great complexity and depth. This excellent Yoichi Japan single malt whisky is very multi-layered and, with its unusual maltiness and earthiness for a Japanese whisky, is an absolute highlight and masterpiece of the Japanese art of whisky distilling.
According to the world-famous whisky critic Jim Murray, the 20 years Yoichi Japan Single Malt Whisky is one of the six great malt whiskies in the world and was voted the best single malt whisky in the world in 2008 by the highly respected British Whisky Magazine.
An outstanding and multi-award-winning 20-year-old Yoichi Japanese single malt and rare expression from the Yoichi distillery in Japan for connoisseurs, the discerning whisky collector and lovers of fine old single malt whiskies - japanese whisky at its best!

- Nose: rich and intense. Very elegant. Peat notes are delicately supported by aromas of fresh fruit. It expresses a sense of great maturity. Resin, rosewood, and preserved apricot, it grows in depth.
- Palate: ample, sperical. A note of liquorice and frangipane. It has a smoky character, but remains delicate and nuanced. The fruitness is strong (quince, apple, black cherry). It moves from peat to ripe fruit and back again.
