Rare and selected Old Forester Kentucky Straight Bourbon and Rye Whiskey
Old Forester is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, which is produced by Brown-Forman Corporation and with over 145 years of history one of the oldest brands for bourbon whiskey in the USA. The production is made in the brown-forman distillery in Shively, located directly on the southwestern border of Louisville. The first bottling was done in 1873 and it was also the first Bourbon whiskey to be sealed exclusively in closed bottles as protection against falsification and substitution of the contents and was initially only sold as a medicine in pharmacies. This represented a higher level of quality assurance for this brand compared to other products on the market and the bottlings were very popular with doctors and pharmacists who sold the product. During the prohibition period from 1920 to 1933, Old Forester was one of only 10 trademarks licensed for lawful manufacture for medical purposes.
Originally, the product name Old Forrester was written with a double r, this should have been done after the doctor Dr. William Forrester, who at that time advocated consumption and the renaming, so today it is assumed, occurred to avoid a direct reference to the name of the doctor. It was founded by pharmaceutical salesman George Garvin Brown and his half-brother John Thompson Street Brown (J. T. S.), who later determined the history of the Four Roses Distillery and inspired the naming of a Bourbon brand of the Heaven Hill Distilleries. After several partnerships and name changes, George Garvin Brown was the only owner in 1902, and although Brown-Forman is now one of the leading suppliers of whiskey, vodka, liqueur and tequila and a big publicly traded company, the Brown family still controls a large proportion of the company s voting shares.
The Old Forester Bourbon Whiskeys received numerous international awards for their excellent quality, were awarded several times Best Bourbon and Whiskey of the Year awards and were awarded many gold medals. Today, connoisseurs, lovers and collectors are especially interested in the old single barrel bourbon whiskeys and in Europe rarely available limited editions from the Old Forester Birthday Bourbon Collection.
