A rare and magnificent 17-year-old Wild Turkey Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, which was selected by Master Distiller Jimmy Russel and bottled in a limited edition as a special release with bottle no. M518 exclusively for the Japanese market at 50.5% vol / 1010 proof and was not officially available in Europe.
Wild Turkey is an American Kentucky straight bourbon from Austin Nichols produced at the Wild Turkey Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. The brand has existed since 1941 and has belonged to Davide Campari-Milano since 2009. The Ripy Distillery was founded in 1869 on the hill now known as Wild Turkey Hill above a gorge of the Kentucky River in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. The distillery was temporarily closed in 1919 due to Prohibition, but was finally reopened and modernised in 1933. In 1940, Thomas McCarthy, one of the managers of the Ripy Distillery, brought whiskey from his own company to hunt turkeys (wild turkey). His friends liked the whiskey so much that the following year they asked him to bring back some of the Wild Turkey whiskey for turkey hunting, and the colloquial name became the brand name.
