The great Yamazaki Puncheon Relase 2013 Japan Single Malt Whisky matured in 480 litre Puncheon casks made from North American white oak and was bottled in the year 2013 as a limited edition and 4th release without the addition of colourants and chill-filtration at 48.0% vol. The staves for the Puncheon casks used were specially made from staves of North American white oak. The maturation of whisky in large casks is much slower than in a standard hogshead.
Puncheon casks have a capacity of around 480 litres and therefore hold significantly more than hogshead casks, which hold around 230 litres. With the larger volume of the puncheon, the contact surface of the whisky with the oak is smaller than with the hogshead, which means that the wood flavours in the whisky are usually significantly less pronounced.
On the nose, the Yamazaki Puncheon 2013 Japan Single Malt shows a successful blend of vanilla, biscuits, apples, dried fruits, caramel and peach, the taste shows vanilla, peach, pears, light fruits and flavours of oak, the finish is medium long, balanced with a fine sweetness and pleasant warmth.
The Yamazaki Puncheon 2013 Japan Single Malt Whisky is made from only the finest and most original ingredients, making it a very special experience for the taste buds. Ingredients that are transformed into a wonderfully harmonious single malt during the skilful distillation process. Its soft water comes from the springs of the River Hakushu and the wood in which it is matured comes from fine American white oak. Suntory's best-known whisky brands are Yamazaki, Hibiki and Hakushu.
