A.H. Hirsch Reserve 1974 16 Years Gold Wax Straight Bourbon Whiskey 45.8% Vol. - a legendary Bourbon Whiskey from the closed Michters Distillery in Pennsylvania from Hirsch Distillers in Lawrenceburg!
A rare and stunning vintage 1974 16 year old A.H. Hirsch Straight Bourbon Whiskey without added colouring and chill filtration at 45.8% vol. and one of the early bottlings of the legendary 5-Star American Bourbon Whiskey from the Michter s Distillery in Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania, which finally closed in the year 1990. The history of this exceptional Straigth Bourbon Whiskey began in the spring of 1974 with distillation in the small copper stills of the old Michter Distillery in the heart of Pennsylvania, which is now a National Historic Landmark. In 1989, the distillery had to close, some of the whiskey was sold immediately, while the rest was stored in Kentucky at Julian Van Winkle, first in Lawrenceburg and later in Frankfort, for final maturation and bottling.
Fifteen years later, Adolph Hirsch, a former director of Schenley Distillers, discovered the batch. Recognising the outstanding quality of the bourbon whiskey, which had now been matured for 15 years, he acquired all 400 barrels and gave it his own name.
This A.H. Hirsch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey with the gold wax capsule is the last bottling from the mid 1990s of a total of 400 barrels and was bottled in the old Stitzel-Weller distillery at Julian Van Winkle III at his Old Commonwealth site and Hirsch Distillers in Lawrenceburg, which is well known among connoisseurs for its exceptional bourbon whiskeys.
Among connoisseurs and collectors, this special A.H. Hirsch pot-stilled sour mash straight bourbon whiskey with its dramatic history and origin has now achieved cult status, is an icon among the world s premium bourbon whiskeys, is rare to find and, together with other bottlings such as the 16 years Boone s Knoll and a few 23 years Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve, is now one of the most expensive and sought-after bourbon whiskeys on the market.
A very special piece of whiskey history and exceptionally rare straight bourbon whiskey for connoisseurs, discerning whiskey collectors and lovers of fine old bourbon whiskeys!
