This rare vintage 1990 16 years-old Bowmore Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made from a limited edition of only 39 carefully selected sherry casks, bottled at natural cask strength 53.8% vol. in the year 2006 and the second release from a series of four limited Bowmore vintage versions from 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1992 with different cask types.
Every part of this whisky was hand crafted and distilled back in 1989: the barley was malted, hand turned and tradionally peat kiln dried at the distillery. After distillation, the spirit spent 16 years slowly maturing in oak casks, before finally being decanted to the bottle. This is a true expression of Bowmore in its natural form, from the barley, to the barrel, to the bottle. The result is a Bowmore light teak in colour, the aromas are big, rich and complex - dark chocolate, raisins and sweet figs are bound together with that distinctive Bowmore smokiness. On the palate it is warm and delicious, full of rich fruit cake flavours with a slight salty spiciness. The finish is long, rich and elegant. A beautiful bowmore reminiscent of old times.
