This very rare and unique vintage 1996 20 year old hand-filled limited edition Bowmore Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky was bottled at natural cask strength 56.2% vol. from a 1st-fill Oloroso sherry butt with cask no. 2534 from the Bowmore No.1 Vaults in an edition of only 520 bottles exclusively on site at the distillery on 18th November 2016 and was not officially available on the market.
Every part of the whisky was processed by hand and distilled in 1996: the barley was malted and dried traditionally in the distillery s kiln. After distillation, the distillate spent over 20 years slowly maturation in a 1st fill Oloroso sherry butt before finally being bottled by hand directly from the cask on site for a small number of visitors to the distillery. A delicate oloroso sherry cask matured Bowmore Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky with a great body and wonderful character that is reminiscent of old times and can certainly compete with the legendary bottlings from the 1960s and 1970s or a Seadragon.
Due to the small edition and as one of the oldest bottlings from the Bowmore hand-filled single cask range to date, this special Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky is rarely found and is already one of the most sought-after Bowmore single cask bottlings among connoisseurs and whisky-collector s of first-class old Scotch whiskies.
