This rare vintage 1999 17 year old hand-filled Feis Ile 2016 limited bottling Bowmore Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky was bottled in May 2016 from a Pedro Ximénez Sherry Butt with cask no. 24 in an edition of only 666 bottles at natural cask strength 56.1% vol. and was not officially available on the market.
Every part of the whisky was finished by hand and distilled in 1999: the barley was malted, hand turned and tradionally peat kiln dried at the distillery. After distillation, the spirit spent more than 17 years slowly maturing in a Pedro Ximénez Sherry butt cask before finally for a small number of visitors could be filled by hand from the barrel. This is a Bowmore in its natural form, of the barley, and its maturation in the bottle. The result is a Bowmore with a auburn-bronze in color, the aromas are complex - sweet and subtle smoke with soft peat, dark chocolate with sherry and oak spice. On the palate it is surprisingly delicate - very tiny and fresh, wood smoke and sweet sherry, dates and dark berries, espresso. The finish is long lasting and warm with mint, sweet sherry, raisins, black coffee with oak and smoke. A rare and special Bowmore Islay whisky with great body that is reminiscent of old times and can compete with the legendary bottlings from the 1960s and 1970s or a Seadragon.
Due to the limited edition, this special Bowmore is rarely found and is one of the most sought-after bottlings among connoisseurs, discerning whisky collectors and lovers of fine old Scotch whiskies.
