A very rare vintage 1970 over 12 year old Bowmore Islay single malt Scotch whisky, distilled in the 1970s and bottled in the early 1980s without added colouring or chill filtration at cask strength 54.5% vol. by Morrison Howat Distillers LTD. Islay and Glasgow with the gold screw cap and imported for the German market by Hanseatische Weinhandelsgesellschaft in Bremen.
This Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky is one of the very rare original Bowmore bottlings from the time when James Howat managed the Bowmore Distillery in partnership with the Morrison family (1963 - 1987), therefore the name Morrison Howatt Distillers Ltd. was on the bottle label. The company was established specifically for the purpose of the acquisition of Bowmore by Stanley P. Morrison and James Howat and was previously Stanley P. Morrison Ltd.
According to an unconfirmed Bowmore customer service agent, this whisky was originally produced in a small number for export to Japan. When the whisky was collected at the airport in Japan the recipient complained that the whisky was cloudy and promptly returned the order, obviously unaware that unchillfiltered whisky will always appear cloudy in the low tempreatures which travelling in the hold of an aircraft would create. After receiving the return delivery, the whisky was allegedly sold in part to the distillery staff and to Germany.
An absolutely rare and collectible old Bowmore Islay single malt Scotch whisky, which is almost impossible to find today and a special recommendation for connoisseurs, the discerning whisky collector and lovers of exclusive old Scotch whiskies!
