The 12 year Chivas Regal Scotch whisky is a historical milestone in whisky history, a kind of phoenix from the ashes. After the turbulence of the 1920s and 1930s, the year 1938 saw the birth of the 12 years Chivas Regal, which is still produced today. Originally created by Charles H. Julian in 1939 for the US market, it has remained one of the most popular bottlings in the world for over 100 years. The first Chivas was matured for 25 years and launched on the market in 1909. Although the blend appears to contain a large proportion of grain whisky, Strathisla is also strongly represented.
The iconic brand was founded back in 1838 by James Chivas as a partner in a grocer s shop in Aberdeen. He began selling whisky blends and the boom in the production of grain whisky enabled the newly founded company Chivas Brothers to release a large number of successful blended whiskies in Europe and the United States. After being acquired by Seagram - which also owned the Strathisla distillery, which served as the base malt for the blends - and then by Pernod Ricard, the Chivas brand is now internationally recognised and offers a wide range of whiskies, from entry-level bottlings to luxury whiskies.
