A rare vintage 2003 15 year old Diamond Demerara Versailles Single Wooden Pot Still Navy Strength Single Cask Guyana Rum exclusively selected by Andrea Giannone and Giuseppe Gervasio Dolci for the Milano Rum Festival 2019.
This fine and exquisite Demerara Navy Strength Single Cask Guyana Rum was distilled in May 2003 in the historic Versailles single wooden pot still of the Demerara Diamond Distillers (DDL), was matured for 15 years in an oak cask with the cask no. 29/2003, before it was bottled in February 2019 without added sugar or colouring in a limited edition of just 270 individually hand-numbered bottles at navy strength 57.0% vol. with a special bottle label to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first moonwalk for the Milano Rum Festival and Barmetro.
The Diamond Estate was established around 1670 and is the only remaining rum distillery in Guyana. Located on the east bank of the Demerara River, the distillery is operated by Demerara Distillers Ltd (DDL), the company set up by the Guyana government to consolidate the country s rum production. This began in 1974 and culminated in the closure of Uitvlugt in 1999. Diamond blends its El Dorado brand using distillates from various combinations of its rum-producing stills, including two two-column English Coffey stills installed there in the 1950s and a rarely used high-proof John Dore pot still. These are operated alongside the heritage stills acquired by Uitvlugt, which are Uitvlugt s historic four-column French Savalle stills, the wooden Versailles and Port Mourant pot stills and Enmore s wooden Coffey still, the oldest and last of its kind in the world. El Dorado was launched in 1992, but the distillery has continued its historic practice of supplying casks to independent bottlers, resulting in a wealth of impressive single cask bottlings like this one.
