This stunning vintage 1991 18-years-old Elijah Craig single barrel Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey has received numerous national and international awards for its special quality and is today one of the most sought-after bourbon whiskeys among connoisseurs. This Elijah Craig Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey was distilled on 23th August 1991 and matured for 18 years in a new charred oak barrel with barrel no. 2964.
The Elijah Craig brand is produced by Heaven Hill, and this single barrel was filled at the old Elijah Craig distillery in Bardstown. The production has since moved to Bernheim in Louisville since the site this was distilled at burned down in 1996.
The bourbon whiskey was named after the Baptist preacher Elijah Craig in Scott County, Kentucky. According to legend, the Rev. Craig distilled and stored his home-distilled whiskey in an old barn that caught fire one day. Undeterred, Craig continued to use the charred casks for his distillates and found that they changed in colour and flavour. With and through this discovery, he was credited with the invention of whiskey for the first time in 1874.
For the 18 years Elijah Craig single barrel Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey, the master distiller only selects barrels that also meet their high standards and the date of barrel filling and the barrel number are indicated on the bottles.
