The Highland Park Freya Orkney Islands Single Malt Scotch whisky is the third bottling of four special bottlings from Highland Park s limited Valhalla Collection, was matured for 15 years in selected 1st fill bourbon casks and was bottled in the year 2014 without the addition of colourants and chill filtration at cask strength 51.2% vol.
The Highland Park Freya from the Valhalla Collection, which celebrates the ancient Norse gods, is dedicated to the Norse goddess of love and fertility. Freya is famous in Norse mythology for her great beauty and is often referred to as the beautiful one. She is considered powerful and clever, but also has a sensitive side. It is said that she weeps red-golden tears. Freya is the patron saint and protector of mankind and rules over the great field of Fólkvangr, often known as the Field of Warriors, where the souls of slain heroes are received and shared with Odin s hall, Valhalla. It is this important role that has led many to glorify Freya as the leader of the Valkyries, the Norse angels who choose which warriors will be blessed with the afterlife.
The Highland Park Freya shines in the taste with fine citrus flavours, pleasant oranges and limes, a hint of smoke, butterscotch, coconut, vanilla, oranges followed by grasses and peat, the finish is complex and finely balanced spicy flavours and light peat smoke.
A fine Highland Park Orkney Islands single malt Scotch whisky presented in an exclusive oak frame reminiscent of a longboat from the Viking era, continuing Highland Park s tradition of reflecting the character and qualities of the legendary Norse gods in a fine old Scotch whisky.
