With only nine active years the malt whisky distillery Ladyburn belongs to the distilleries with the shortest history in Scotland. The distillery is located in the Lowlands whisky region near the town of Ayshire. William Grant and Sons Limited founded Ladyburn in 1966, who already owned the Glenfiddich and Balvenie distilleries at the time, and the distillery was not in itself a distillery but rather two still pairs in the Girvan distillery. The Girvan distillery was built in 1963 and in 1966 William Grant and Sons decided to carry out a small extension in the distillery in the form of Ladyburn. In 1976 Grant and Sons decided to stop the production of Ladyburn and so Ladyburn met the same destiny as the Ben Wyvis Malt distillery in the Invergordon Highland Grain distillery or the Kinclaith Malt Distillery within the walls of the Strathclyde Grain distillery and all the equipment was demounted. Today the only remains of Ladyburn are the rare original bottlings and the still active Girvan distillery.
Some independent bottlers have launched whisky from the Ladyburn distillery under the name Ayrshire, and there are only 46 original bottlings from William Grant and Sons to date.
