A very rare and magnificent 1981 vintage Lagavulin Distillers Edition and the 3rd edition of the Special Release from the year 2000 as 1,0 litre-bottling. This almost 19-year-old Islay Single Malt Whisky from the Classic Malts Selection by Islay legend Lagavulin was distilled in 1981 and was allowed to mature for up to 2 years in European Pedro Ximenez Sherry oak casks - these give the whisky more fruit such as raisins and dried fruit and a syrupy character. The whisky was bottled in the millenium-year 2000 at 43.0% vol. and the batch number lgv.04/465 under the direction of Distiller Manager Donald Renwick.
Ingenious and complex, this exceptional malt delivers with elegance and style the special Lagavulin intensity of the old bottlings from the 1970s and early 1980s. With its beautiful mahogany colour, this special Islay single malt shows its complexity and maturity, combined with a rich nose of oranges, smoke, tobacco, wet wood, sea, sherry and and inviting smoke.
This version and old Islay single malt is today one of the very rare and stunning old bottlings of Lagavulin - the Distillers Edition Special Release bottlings of the years 1979 to 1981 with their longer maturation in sherry casks and the special aromas are among the absolute rarities among connoisseurs, collectors and lovers of fine old Scotch whiskies!
