A rare 1.0 litre bottlling of the vintage 1991 16 year old Lagavulin Double Matured Distillers Edition Special Release Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky from the year 2008. This over 16 year old Lagavulin Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky from the Classic Malts selection of the Islay legend Lagavulin was distilled in the year 1991, matured for many years in American Oak Bourbon casks and up to 6 months in European Pedro Ximenez Sherry oak casks - these give the whisky more fruit such as sultanas and dried fruit and a syrupy character. The bottling took place in the years 2008 at 43.0% vol. and the batch number lgv.04/496 under the direction of distillery manager Graham Logie.
Very accomplished and complex, this mellow vintage 1990 16 years Lagavulin Islay Single Malt Scotch delivers the expected Lagavulin intensity with elegance and style and can certainly be described as exceptional. With its full gold colour, this Lagavulin Islay single malt Scotch whisky shows its complexity and maturity, combined with a rich nose with a beautiful sea breeze, mussels, orange marmalade, beef bouillon, peat, leather and rubber, tar, tobacco and tea. On the palate, the Lagavulin Islay single malt shows notes of sweet tobacco, liquorice, earth, tea, roots, oranges, peat, ham, smoked fish, salt - a brilliant combination! The finish is extremely long and persistent for a 16-year-old Lagavulin with lots of liquorice.
