The rare 2nd release of the vintage 1995 Lagavulin Double Matured Special Release Distillers Edition Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the year 2013. Against the usual 16 years maturation of the Lagavulin Distillers Edition, this batch has a maturation of a good 18 years and features a novelty with the second bottling within a year and the almost 2 years longer maturation.
This nearly 18-year-old single malt whisky from the Islay legend Lagavulin was distilled in 1995 and matured for up to 2 years in European Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks - which give the whisky more fruit such as raisins and dry fruits and a syrupy character. The bottling was carried out under Distiller Manager Georgie Crawford in 2013 with 43.0% ABV and batch number lgv.04/501.
This is the definitive Islay Malt - untameable, with the strongest peat flavour of any of the malt whiskies from this wild island shore. Its dry, complex strength of character, with characteristic notes of sea-spray, is perfectly matched by the sweet accents of sun-dried grapes derived from Pedro Ximenez cask-wood in which this special edition has been doubly matured. As a result, this is a rich, peaty malt with a sweet undertone.
Perhaps unsuprisingly it is a stunning Lagavulin Islay single malt scotch whisky and is very highly rated indeed.
