A great and rare bottling of the vintage 1998 16 year old Lagavulin Double Matured Distillers Edition Special Release Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky from the year 2014. This 16 year old Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky from the Classic Malts Selection from the Islay legend Lagavulin was distilled in 1998, matured for up to 6 months in European Pedro Ximenez sherry oak casks - these give the whisky more fruit such as sultanas and dried fruit and a syrupy character. The bottling took place in 2014 at 43.0% vol. and batch number lgv.04/503 under the direction of Distiller Manager Georgie Crawford.
Ingenious and complex, this mature Islay single malt delivers the expected Lagavulin intensity with elegance and style. With its deep copper colour, this fine Lagavulin Islay single malt Scotch whisky shows its complexity and maturity, combined with a rich nose of intense peat and vanilla, sweet sultanas and smoke with crisp, toasted malt. Full-bodied, smooth and pleasant to drink, with notes of malt, peat bogs and smoke, salt with coffee, vanilla and fruit. The finish is complex and very long with malt, peat, smoke and oak, salt with coffee, vanilla and fruit.
