Rare old bottling of a Bowmore Legend of the Sea Maiden limited Edition Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky and the 8th release from the year 2001. This limited edition of the Bowmore Legend was presented by Bowmore in the years 1994 to 2006 in a total of 13 issues with yearly changing motifs in relief print in a metal-tin on the market. On the elaborately designed and embossed metal tins, a legend of Islay Island was presented in English. The limited bottlings were available for the international and a version for the Italian market, which partly had a slightly deviant design and bottles with age indication (8Years) of the Bowmore Legend.
Today almost all versions from this limited edition with the decorative tin are rarely found and the most popular bottlings among collectors.
The Story of the Sea Maiden:
The old fisherman looked forlornly at his dripping, empty net. Suddenly, a sea-maiden rose to the surface of the sea. "I will give you good fishing in return for your first born son," said she. Desperately hungry, the fisherman eagerly consented. Soon a son was born to him, but he could not give up the boy. A soothsayer said that to break the promise, the boy would have to find the ghostly white deer that so many feared, slay it, and break the golden egg hidden inside. Years later, the son - now a young man - went on a quest for the deer. The sea-maiden was angry, but before she could push the old fisherman into the sea, the son slew the deer and smashed the egg into a million pieces. The promise was broken and the sea-maiden banished to the deep forever.
