The Macallan 1851 Inspiration Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a special Scotch whisky that is intended to commemorate the time of upheaval and experimentation with different cask types in whisky production. It was bottled in a limited edition in 2010 and was officially only available in the travel retail market for a short time. To perfect this reminiscence, the bottles were made by hand, the corks were driven in by hand and the wax seal was also created by simple dipping.
The surface of the original glass bottle was uneven in some places and the glass itself had trapped small bubbles, the neck of the bottle was not straight and the body of the bottle was slightly egg-shaped. All of these imperfections, which were once common in Victorian glassware, were copied exactly in the replica bottles made by glassmakers Stolzle Flaconnage of Knottingley, West Yorkshire. The replica bottles were then sealed by hand. The Macallan 1851 Inspiration Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky was bottled at 41.3% vol, is described as lighter of its type and shows the period in a successful combination of bourbon and sherry oak casks.
