A very rare vintage 1970 32 years-old Springbank Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky, distilled on 1st December 1970 and, after more than of 32 years of maturation in cask no. 2966, bottled on 25th November 2003 as a private bottling by Springbank in an edition of only 186 individually hand numbered bottles without the addition of dyes and chill filtration at cask strength 53.1% vol. A great Springbank Single Cask Whisky and certainly with one of the outstanding bottlings of Springbank from the early 1970s.
The so-called private Bottling formerly used by some distilleries to refinance, the freshly bottled whisky in one or more barrels were sold through the intermediary of a whiskey trader or broker has to his birth and was then allowed to mature in the duty-free warehouse of the distillery. The buyer got the property documents in the acquired and numbered barrels and could be sent to a sample year on request and usually at an additional cost, many distilleries also the visit of acquired barrel was possible and the buyer could decide when and how (if at cask strength or diluted) of whisky is bottled. The import was then carried out by the applicable duties as taxes, duties, transport costs and tariffs normally again about the intermediary whisky traders and the filled bottles were there delivered or forwarded to their owners.
