Velier Diamond 1981 31 Years Cask # 10537-10536-10539 Very Old Demerara Guyana Rum 60.1% Vol. - one of only 810 bottles of a legendary Diamond Guyana Rum by Velier!
A legendary and stunning vintage 1981 31 year old Diamond Guyana Rum from Demerara Distillers Ltd. in Georgetown, bottled in July 2012 at cask strength 60.1% vol. by Velier in a limited edition of only 810 bottles. This historic Diamond Guyana Rum is a special blend of three casks (#10537-10536-10539, marked S<W>) from an original 37 casks and an almost unbelievable Angel's Share of > 94%, selected by the world-renowned bottler Velier and Luca Gagarno from Genoa.
To ensure that the last remaining distilleries did not lose the battle against the competition, several companies joined forces from the 1980s onwards: first Enmore and Diamond Liquors and then Uitvlugt and Guyana. This ultimately resulted in the company merger Demerara Distillers Limited, often abbreviated to DDL. Activities were transferred to the Diamond Distillery, where the old stills from the inactive distilleries can be found today - including a double still from Port Mourant, a four-column Savalle still from Uitvlugt, a historic Versailles still and a Coffey still from Enmore. The molasses for the distillation is based exclusively on Demerara sugar cane from the surrounding area, and the old stills, which no longer exist anywhere else in the world, are available for the distillation, making Diamond Demerara Rum unquestionably unique.
This spectacular vintage 1981 Diamond Very Old Demerara Guyana Rum comes from a series of legendary bottlings from the short but sweet period (2004-2015) when Velier owned a small stake in Demerara Distillers Ltd (DDL), giving Luca Gargano privileged access to the warehouses and his choice of casks for bottling. These special bottlings, alongside the incredible Caroni bottlings, played a key role in building Velier's reputation. Sadly, the Velier and Demerara DDL era is over, but the memory of it lives on in these spectacular bottlings.
This exceptional Diamond Guyana Rum is characterised by wonderful aromas of vanilla, caramel, pineapple, milk chocolate and aniseed on the nose. On the palate, you can expect a harmonious blend of vanilla, coffee, dark chocolate and leather notes. This rare and exceptional Guyana rum offers a remarkably smooth and balanced flavour experience with aromas of spices, tropical fruits and a deeply satisfying richness that lingers on the palate.
Almost impossible to find today, this iconic vintage 1981 31 years Diamond Very Old Demerara Guyana Rum is a coveted rarity among connoisseurs, discerning rum collectors and aficionados due to its unique flavours and concentration resulting from its long tropical maturation, and a special gem on the market!
